Killed Him - acting test

Killed Him is an acting test built around a progression from denial to a breakdown, then desperation, and finally acceptance. I wanted the character’s face to carry those changes, so I relied heavily on filmed reference and studied small, involuntary details: a trembling lip, a flutter of the eyes, or an eye dart before he looks away.

I also studied animated performances, including Ratatouille, to see how strongly pushed facial poses can remain believable. I focused on mouth shapes, eye shapes, and the overall shape of the face, using hand gestures and body poses to reinforce each emotional shift. The challenge was to make the transitions between those states feel continuous, rather than like four separate expressions.

I animated and lit the shot in Maya, rendered it in Arnold, and composited it in Nuke. At every stage, I returned to that emotional arc, making sure the lighting and final image supported the performance rather than drawing attention away from it.
